The case for pre-orders
Why wait, when you can have it right away? We want what we want, and we want it now.
It is in our nature. Just look at little kids. They want what they want and they will not stop screaming until they get what they want. But if you are reading this, you are most probably not a little kid, and might have experienced the satisfaction of delayed gratification. Think of all the long queues in Singapore - from bubble tea to hawker food, some people even queue simply because there is a queue! We all acknowledge that if something is worth the wait, it is worth the wait. We give you 2 other reasons why pre-ordering might be worth the wait!
Value of 'wait'
Waiting can be one of the hardest things in life. Especially if you are waiting for something without an "eta". But pre-orders are different. The feelings of suspense, excitement and longing of something you pre-ordered is quite unexplainable. You know it will arrive, and so you count the days, set your reminders, and maybe even have dreams about it when you sleep. When something is pre-ordered, the price is not what gives it its full value. The 'wait' is.
When a product is pre-ordered, the company will be able to know exactly how much to produce. This avoids over-production and waste of resources, allowing them to pass on cost savings to customers. Over-production is also a huge environmental issue in the fashion industry, where 30% of all garments made in a year are never sold, and 12.8 million tons of clothing are sent to landfills annually.
